Shiloh Military Park in the fall

Shiloh Military Park in the fall

Over the weekend before Veterans Day I thought it was only appropriate to spend some time in silence on a battlefield. I made the 45 minute trek from my home to Shiloh. As I walked the path that followed Ruggles battery lines and was caught up in the feeling a person can get from walking a battlefield alone. Sometimes when I stopped and listened I felt a presence there. It is amazing to think that over 150 years ago this place was soaked in blood. On that day it was filled with the colors of fall and the sounds of birds chirping. The special part of the day was seeing all of the boy scouts who were out hiking the park and learning about their country’s history. Thank you to all our veterans.
